TRILOGY ADDS NETSCAPE NETCASTER SUPPORT TO ENTERPRISE SALES AND MARKETING SOFTWARE SOLUTION

SELLING CHAIN FOR THE WEB ELECTRONIC COMMERCE SOFTWARE INCORPORATES NETSCAPE NETCASTER FUNCTIONALITY TO ENABLE ENTERPRISE-WIDE ACCESS TO "PUSH" DELIVERY OF MISSION-CRITICAL INFORMATION

AUSTIN, Texas (August 13, 1997) -- Trilogy, a leading provider of enterprise-wide sales and marketing software solutions and Netscape Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: NSCP), a leading provider of software for the Internet and enterprise networks, today announced the availability this month of Trilogy's Netscape Netcaster-enabled version of Selling Chain for the Web (SC Web). SC Web is the Java-based implementation of Trilogy's Selling Chain, an enterprise-wide, cross-platform suite of applications that enables corporations to generate a significant return on investment (ROI) by re-engineering their sales and marketing processes. Netscape Netcaster is a component of Netscape Communicator client software that enables "push" delivery of dynamic content. By adding Netscape Netcaster functionality to SC Web, Trilogy is enabling users to receive mission-critical sales and marketing information and software updates in a timely, efficient manner. SC Web also leverages Netscape Enterprise Server, Netscape FastTrack Server and Netscape ONE technologies such as Java and CORBA to deliver information across the enterprise.

"The vision for SC Web is to provide a compelling suite of sales and marketing applications which enable our customers to efficiently configure and price products, create sales quotes, check order status, and order products," said Joe Liemandt, president and CEO of Trilogy. "By leveraging Netscape Netcaster client software, Trilogy is extending the functionality of SC Web in order to provide customers with automatic updates to the latest mission-critical applications and data."

With the Netscape Netcaster-enabled version of SC Web, SC-related data and applications such as SC Quote, a Java-based online quoting and ordering system, are automatically distributed to users via a Netscape Netcaster channel featuring a user-friendly interface. As a result, salespeople always have the up-to-date information and software they need right at their fingertips. The software distribution functionality of Netscape Netcaster also eliminates the need for system administrators to spend time individually upgrading each system when SC Web updates are released. When a Netscape Netcaster channel is updated, it receives new information as well as any updates to previously-installed software applications.

"Incorporating Netscape Netcaster and Netscape ONE technologies into SC Web enables it to seamlessly integrate into today's standards-based, cross-platform Internet, Intranet and Extranet environments," said Danny Shader, vice president of industry and developer relations at Netscape. "The Netscape enterprise vision focuses on enabling organizations to distribute mission-critical information in a flexible, interactive and cross-platform format to employees, partners and customers. Trilogy's implementation of Netscape Netcaster and Netscape ONE technologies in SC Web is an ideal example of this vision in action."

SC Web is an open, flexible, customizable framework that integrates front office functions from the point-of-sale to the point of order entry. Accompanying the framework is a set of advanced applications for numerous aspects of the sales process, including strategic pricing, product configuration, order entry and proposal generation. SC Web moves information from product managers, customer service personnel and pricing representatives right to the point of sale. It reaches users with a single application and allows companies to leverage existing information infrastructure to provide updated sales and marketing data.
